Did you know that Australia is the world’s number one migration destination for high net-worth individuals around the world? If you’ve toyed with the thought of doing business in Australia, it’s good to know that it’s an attractive country for start-up and thriving long-term businesses. Australia has a strong and resilient economy, a skilled workforce, and strong ties to Asia. The Business Migration Visa pathway aims to attract current business owners out of Australia to come and genuinely invest in, establish or purchase an Australian business.
Today business owners in Australia can be even more certain that Australia is not only a haven for gaining residency and to run your business, but it is also a very safe playing ground. On 22 March, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced an economic rescue package to support small businesses as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Among the highlights of the Australian Government are:
- latest package ramps up a previous wage subsidy to small business which will be increased from a $25,000 cash refund to a maximum payment of $100,000.
- The payment is open to businesses with a turnover less than $50m and also for not-for-profit charities.
- In round one, the measure was worth $6.7bn. Increasing the wage subsidy payment to $100,000 adds an extra $25.2bn in support, bringing the total to $31.9bn.
It is certainly assuring to know that the business industry in Australia is backed by very strong and commendable government policies, especially in times of global crisis that supports especially the small business owners. In total, the government has now committed economic support worth $189bn – almost 10% of GDP – and has also flagged more packages as the crisis unfolds.
